Jil Sander Leaves Her Label Again

Jil Sander is leaving her namesake brand again. It is the third time that she has departed the brand that bears her name, which this time she has said is for personal reasons.

"On behalf of the group I want to thank Jil Sander for her remarkable contribution to the brand over this period," Jil Sander chief executive Alessandro Cremonesi said in a statement today, WWDreports. "Her outstanding design and creative leadership have been crucial in reinforcing the brand and positioning it to foster further prosperous growth".

Sander - who turns 70 later this year - sold the majority of her eponymous label to Prada in 2000, planning to work alongside the new management, but in 2001 resigned from her position as chairwoman, and shortly after as chief designer, after a reported ongoing conflict with Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli, Miuccia Prada's husband. She was replaced by Milan Vukmirovic (who later moved to Trussardi), but as the label's popularity waned Sander was reinstated in May 2003. However, the designer and Bertelli reportedly still failed to make their professional relationship work and Sander stepped down again in November 2004 - and was succeeded by Raf Simons the following year, in May 2005.

Sander returned to the house most recently in February 2012, replacing Raf Simons as he departed for Dior. Her last collection was the spring/summer 2014 offering shown in Milan in September. The autumn/winter 2014 collection will be designed by the label's in-house design team.
