Chalayan’s New Vionnet Job

Hussein Chalayan has been hired as Vionnet's demi-couture designer. His debut collection for the brand will be unveiled on January 21 during Couture Fashion Week in Paris.

"I'm extremely happy about this collaboration because I think that Hussein is a super-talented, forward-thinking designer," said Vionnet chairman and creative director Goga Ashkenazi. "He is a true artist, very conceptual; he thinks out of the box and has a strong architectural approach. He represents what Madeleine Vionnet represented in her era."

Vionnet launched its demi-couture line for spring/summer 2013 - one-off dresses made using a high level of craftsmanship, but sold at lesser prices than traditional couture pieces. Hussein Chalayan - who celebrated the 20th anniversary of his eponymous label last year - is known for his avant-garde designs and innovative techniques.

"The combined elements of Goga Ashkenazi's creative energy and entrepreneurial approach together with the unparalleled heritage of the house makes this an exciting collaboration for me," Chalayan told WWD.
