"Lulu mentored me in the early days of my brand, and has always been a good advisor business-wise," Gray said. "It was great to work on Lulu & Co, which is Lulu's personal fabulous wearable label. I loved being able to inject my prints and work into the collection."
Gray has been "super busy" since stepping away from her label, and hopes to return to the London Fashion Week schedule soon. Her playful, bright aesthetic is strongly reflected in the Lulu & Co collection, which features pencil skirts and minidresses covered in bold black spots; prom-like pleated, striped skirts; and T-shirts, shorts and vests decorated with a graffiti print.
"It was really straightforward and fun," said Kennedy of the design process. "Louise came to our studio and saw how our collection was developing, went away and came back with her own brilliant new ideas that sat together well with ours. She is an exceptional and original talent and has always had her own unique aesthetic, but she is also completely brilliant at collaborating and was able to adjust her work to suit a contemporary label like ours without losing its signature."
Although Gray is remaining tight-lipped about her future projects, Kennedy can't wait for her to return to London's fashion scene.
"Every piece that she's made for Lulu & Co looks fabulous and has been really popular with buyers, which confirms what a strong demand there is for her work," said Kennedy. "I selfishly hope that she will be back soon with her own label, we all miss her so much and LFW didn't feel the same without her last season."
