Marques Almeida For Topshop

Marques Almeida has been winning plaudits from the fashion editors for some time now thanks to its nineties-meets-millennium aesthetic and its (much-imitated) signature shredded denim, and now it looks set to win a new army of fans with its long-awaited Topshop collaboration which launches next week.

"We were able to dig deep in our initial Nineties obsessions and have quite a lot of fun with it," design duo Marta Marques and Paulo Almedia told us. "It became sort of a younger teenage sister version of M'A."

Younger sibling aside, there is plenty to please the current Marques Almeida customer.  Comprising over 50 pieces, the collection has flared trousers; long leather jackets; colour-pop cottons; chunky sandals; bucket hats - so ubiquitous of the pair's desired decade; and, of course, plenty of ripped, frayed and love-worn denim.

"It was an incredible process," said the designers of working with the high-street store. "We felt very grateful to be able to work with everyone at Topshop and mostly Kate Phelan for being incredibly encouraging and inspiring and trusting us with this huge task. It meant we could learn so much from them and it will also mean that more people will hear about Marques Almeida and we will be able to reach places we couldn't have done any other way."

See the full collection for the first time here. The collection will be available from Topshop.com and Net-a-porter.com on Thursday October 9.
