Miuccia Prada has denied that she is being investigated by Italy's tax authorities. The designer and her husband, Patrizio Bertelli, refuted claims that they were being quizzed regarding an "unfaithful earnings declaration".
"At the moment, as far as we know, nobody is under investigation," Prada's legal representatives, Stefano Simontacchi and Guido Alleva, who consulted with the couple on a voluntary disclosure made to the Italian tax office last year, told WWD.
Prada announced "the completion of a voluntary disclosure procedure, which follows the company's strategic decision to choose Italy as its business hub" in December, adding that this followed "a collaboration programme with the Italian Tax Authorities that started back in 2008".
Several other Italian companies, including Dolce & Gabbana, have been subject to investigation under the country's stringent tax laws in recent years. The Italian government now aims to pass a law to promote voluntary disclosures, with any investigations resulting in a financial fine, rather than the penal consequences that many - including Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - have been threatened with.
